How to make Ayurvedic kohl (Kajal) at home?

Kohl (Kajal) has always been part of Indian culture and it has kept its place quite secure in today’s makeup industry as well. But now a days Kajals are loaded with harmful chemicals which may harm our eyes if used on regular basis. Here comes the saviour, this Ayurvedic recipe for making Ayurvedic Kajal is not only fully organic, easy to make, keep our eyes safe from harmful chemicals but also keeps various eye related problems at a bay. This Kajal is used in many parts of India for new born babies and the mother. So, let’s begin with the recipe:

Ingredients required:

  • Desi cow ghee (clarified butter)
  • Pure Almond oil
  • Organic Turmeric powder
  • Almonds (other than California almonds)
  • Carom seeds
  • Neem fruit or fresh leaf buds
  • Baked clay lamp (diya)
  • Muslin cloth

Procedure:

1. Make a paste of turmeric powder in water.

2. Dip muslin cloth in this paste and let the cloth dry.

3. Grind almonds and neem fruit/leaves separately.

4. Place almonds, neem fruit/ leaves and carom seeds on muslin cloth. Fold this cloth to make a wick for lamp.

5. Put this wick in a diya and pour ghee in it. Light the lamp.

6. Place a plate few centimetres above the lamp to collect the soot.

7. Remove the soot from the plate and put in an air tight container.

8. Mix few drops of almond oil to the soot and your organic and medicated Kajal is ready.

To use this Kajal for eye disorders like dry eye, red eye and eye infections, apply it before going to the bed. Otherwise, it can be applied anytime, anywhere.
